Dr. Alan Wu is a prominent Chinese internet expert; a Special Research Fellow at Harvard University's Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies; an expert adviser to the China Electronic Commerce Association; a specially appointed entrepreneurship mentor for an incubator at the MIT Sloan School of Management; a member of the Fifth Committee of the Chongqing Municipal Committee of the China National Democratic Construction Association; one of the Fourth “Top Ten Emerging Chongqing Entrepreneurs”; and Executive President of the U.S.–China Economic and Cultural Development Foundation.
Dr. Wu holds a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA/PhD) from the College of Business at the University of Texas at Arlington and a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science and Applications from Chengdu University of Technology. A leading Chinese analyst of the IT and internet industries and a specialist in planning “Blockchain+” initiatives, he has been described by the media as the “Godfather of E-commerce in Western China.” He has long studied the development of the U.S. and Chinese IT industries and brings deep insight into the evolution of the internet, big data, blockchain, and their commercial applications. With 25 years of experience in China's IT and internet sectors, he combines extensive industry knowledge with hands-on management expertise. He has also served as a guest professor at institutions including MIT Sloan, the University of Science and Technology Beijing, Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications, and Yunnan University of Finance and Economics, as well as an academic leader in big data and blockchain applications.
In 2018, Dr. Wu was named to Fast Company's list of “100 Emerging Global Digital Economy Thought Leaders.” A member of China's first generation of internet users, he previously worked as a network engineer at Yahoo China, General Manager of the Southwest Branch of China Computerworld Media Group, Chief Analyst at the Internet Lab, and a consultant with Burson-Marsteller in the United States. His international work has taken him to the United States, Canada, Japan, France, Italy, and South Korea. He has published more than two million Chinese characters of in-depth commentary on the internet, e-commerce, and blockchain industries. Dr. Wu has also supported successful e-commerce and blockchain case studies for Fortune Global 500 companies including Intel, Microsoft, Oracle, Dell, Qualcomm, BP, and HP.
